We’re past the point of questioning the viability of IoT.

But is it really for everyone? The short answer is that it certainly can be, but it will be best utilized by business owners making informed decisions when purchasing an implementing. Especially when it comes to cost, security, and clearly defining the sought after data.

IoT isn’t necessarily synonymous with expensive. That said, the best sensors and cloud software programs don’t come cheap. This technology ranges from highly sophisticated to basic, allowing business owners with specific needs to customize their choices. Keeping this in mind, smaller operations and those hoping to keep costs low will do better to consider exactly which data they need to collect.

On the flip side, security probably shouldn’t be the feature to skimp out on. All this advanced data collection will allow your business to make more informed decision,  but it can also expose you to vulnerabilities. The extra capital required to keep your operation’s information safe might well be worth it.

IoT has the power to revolutionize data management in plants, allowing business owners to optimize like never before. Finding the best fit for your organization is key.
